Neuromuscular Scoliosis/Adult

Neuromuscular disorders affecting the spine can result from neuropathic or myopathic (muscular) conditions, including cerebral palsy, spinal muscle atrophy, Duchene muscular dystrophy, poliomyelitis, and trauma. Adults with spina bifida can also develop varying forms of spinal deformity. It is not uncommon for an adult to be diagnosed with a spinal deformity that may have been undetected during the early years of life and progressed during adulthood. Neurological disorders that present later in life, such as Parkinson's Disease and Multiple Sclerosis, can also lead to spinal deformities.
