Early Onset Idiopathic Scoliosis

This form of scoliosis is found in children up to ten years of age. For a majority of children, birth to three years old, curves spontaneously improve and even disappear over time.  These young patients rarely require a brace or surgery.  But for children between the ages of three and ten years of age, braces and surgery may be necessary.  The key to success in treating these cases is early and aggressive treatment with braces in order to control curvature and to maximize the child’s growth.  Surgery is often required, but this is delayed for as long as possible.
